BMW unveils the 3 Series Touring

Wagons are back! SMC Asia Car Distributors Corp, the official importer and distributor of BMW in the Philippines, is giving Filipino car enthusiasts the added utility of wagons as it officially introduces the new BMW 3 Series Touring. The new introduction adds three new estate or station wagon variants to the 3 Series lineup.

The front end is unmistakably BMW with the redesigned kidney grille with new double bars and modified contours along with twin circular headlights. Flanked by full LED headlights standard for the BMW 318i Touring while the BMW M340i xDrive Touring is equipped with adaptive LED headlights with additional functions like a cornering light, non-dazzling matrix high-beam, dynamic headlight range control and variable light distribution. Under the kidney grille of both variants have air intakes in high gloss black.

While the BMW 3 Series Touring are estates or station wagons, they haven't lost their sporty profile emphasized by the standard-specified MHigh-gloss Shadowline with extended contents. The BMW 318i Touring is equipped with the Exterior Line Satin Aluminum trim, while the M340i xDrive Touring has the M Sport Package Pro, allowing them to be distinct from each other. Both have roof rails as standard, with the BMW 318i Touring having aluminum satinated roof rails and the BMW M340i xDrive Touring is fitted with M roof rails high-gloss Shadowline.

To further distinguish the two from each other, the BMW 318i Touring rolls on Double-spoke style 18" light alloy wheels and is equipped with standard brakes while the BMW M340i xDrive Touring has 19" double-spoke M light-alloy bi-colour wheels with M Sport brakes with calipers painted in red high-gloss. The BMW 318i Touring has the inline four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine which puts out 156-hp with 250-Nm of torque mated to an eight-speed Steptronic transmission. The BMW M340i xDrive Touring has the B58 M TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine which produces 374-hp with 500-Nm of torque mated to an eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission. Both are equipped with paddle shifters.

Interior

The interior of the new BMW 3 Series Touring is spacious, functional, with trim made of high-quality materials and state-of-the-art digital amenities. Behind the wheel is the BMW widescreen display which is a 12.3-inch high resolution digital information display and the 14.9-inch control display which runs on the latest-generation BMW Operating System 8. The new BMW Operating System 8 and its integrated BMW intelligent voice assistant makes for enjoyable driving, intuitive, multimodal control of vehicle, navigation, infotainment, and communications. It also works seamlessly with the entertainment system which has both Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and wireless charging. The BMW 318i Touring comes with the BMW HiFi Loudspeaker system and the BMW M340i xDrive Touring is equipped with Harman Kardon Surround Sound.

The BMW 318i Touring has it's interior in Aluminum "Mesheffect," and the BMW M340i xDrive Touring comes in "Carbon Fiber" M interior trim finishers. Both BMW 318i Touring and M340i xDrive Touring have sports seats for the driver and the front passenger in Sensatec perforated upholstery. Both also have three-zone automatic climate control, conveniently adjusted via voice commands or touch control on the control display. The BMW 3 Series Touring has a 500-liter luggage area, the removable roller tonneau cover obscures and secures items stored in the luggagecompartment. The tonneau cover can be rolled up and stored on the luggage compartment floor. With the rear seats folded, the storage expands to 1,510 liters. Loading and unloading is made even more convenient without needing to open the rear hatch, by having a separate luggage compartment window.

Driver assist

Driver assist is available to help with parking and maneuvering in the new BMW 3 Series Touring, it includes: Automated Parking System and parking Assistant which integrates with the Reversing Assist Camera, the Lateral Parking Aid and the Active PDC. And the Reversing Assistant, which can reverse the car for distances of up to 50 meters.

The BMW 318i Touring is priced at P3,890,000 and BMW M340i xDrive Touring is priced at P5,890,000.

BMW M3 Competition xDrive Touring.

This is the first-ever Touring model from the M division. It offers practicality, dynamic performance and long-distance capabilities. While it shares many traits and features with the 318i Touring and BMW M340i xDrive Touring, its exterior is distinctly different, sleeker andsporty with design elements unique to the M series.

The kidney grille is a vertically oriented with large side intakes, sculpted wheel arches and extended side skirts. Its also equipped with M High-gloss Shadowline trim, M roof rails with high-gloss Shadowline finish, and a Gurney air-directing flap in the roof spoiler. Powerplant

It has a six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology developed for the Competition models, putting out 510hp with 650 Nm of peak torque. Its cooling and oil supply systems can handle extremely high longitudinal and lateral dynamic forces as would be experienced on track. Its also equipped with an M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps which generate exhaust note that adds more excitement to the performance experience.

Handling and performance

The BMW M3 Competition xDrive Touring has a tuned chassis which responds well to sporty, daily and long-distance drives. This is helped alongwith adaptive M suspension, M Servotronic steering, and an integrated braking system. Its also equipped with M Compound brakes red high-gloss calipers and rolls on forged M light-alloy wheels in 19- or 20-inch double spoke style 826 M forged wheels in M Bicolor Black. It has M Dynamic Mode and M Traction Control, Dynamic Stability Control system includes driver adjustable wheel slip limitation for precise control of handling.

The 14.9-inch control display's home screen can feature M-specific widgets with car setup and tire condition info. M-specific control has a Setupbutton for direct access to settings for engine, chassis, steering, braking, and M xDrive. The steering wheel's M buttons can store 2 vehicle set-ups. The M Drive Professional suite has M Traction Control, M Drift Analyzer, and M Laptimer. The M Mode button adjusts driver assist system responses and display content, and you can choose from the following settings: ROAD, SPORT, and TRACK. Interior

Standard seats are the M Sport electrically adjustable in Merino leather with memory function and heating. The second row can seat three with asplit 40:20:40 backrest. The rear seats when folded forward will expand the cargo room from 500 to 1,510 liters. An automatic tailgate is standard, it also has the separately opening rear window, and a storage compartment under the cargo area.

Standard comfort features are the three-zone automatic climate control, BMW Live Cockpit Plus with navigation, ambient lighting, Harman Kardon Surround Sound system, wireless smartphone integration with CarPlay and Android Auto. wireless charging and an interior/exterior mirror package. It also has the BMW iDrive system based on the BMW Operating System 8 offering speech and touch control, integrated with BMW Intelligent Voice Assistant and BMW Widescreen Display. The 12.3-inch information display doubles as the instrument cluster which has new graphics in an M-specific style.
