Delivery Person Finds Wii Fit Balance Boards Used as Door Mat
A set of retired Wii Fit balance boards are seen being used as doormats in a retirement home in this out-of-the-box style of thinking.
A delivery person has discovered Wii Fit balance boards being used as doormats. This out-of-the-box way of utilizing older hardware is perfect for the Wii Fit balance boards, seeing as how they were originally meant to be stood on.
The Wii Fit has previously injured players in unusual ways, and since Nintendo has capitalized on creating hardware that doesn't typically follow the traditional gaming mold, unusual stories regarding the use of its products are bound to happen from time to time. At least in this specific case, the Wii Fit balance boards were still used with their original purpose in mind, but in an out-of-the-box creative way.

POSITIVE posted a photo on Reddit that shows them delivering a package to a retirement community. When approaching the woman's home, the deliverer noticed two side by side Wii Fit balance boards being used as doormats. Seeing as how it is a retirement home, the Wii Fit balance boards may be used for more than just aesthetic purposes, as one viewer pointed out that the balance boards are raised higher than doormats, which could signify that the homeowner may need the extra height that the balance boards provide to get into their home more easily. To support this theory, the photo shows that there is a raised platform that one would have to step onto to get through the door, so the balance boards may have offered just enough height. This may not have been the 10-year plan Nintendo intended when stating that it wanted to improve the quality of life for players, but if it's helping an individual then it is still a good thing.
It is not uncommon for older people to enjoy Nintendo games, as one viral gamer grandma had reportedly spent 5,000 days playing Wii Fit. In this specific case, it looks like the elderly can enjoy Nintendo products for more than just gaming, but also as helpful appliances that can be used to assist them in their everyday life activities.
Despite the positive benefits, there have also reportedly been negative self-esteem effects from the Wii Fit among those that have used the console to get in shape, like the tracking of the BMI overtime. Although, this seems to be less of a reflection on working out via gaming and more so on weight loss in general, as there will always be a difficult balance to achieve regardless of lifestyle.
