How This 132,000

May 31, 2023

It's rare to find a 90's classic car in super mint condition. But how on earth is this 1993 Honda Accord SE still looking brand-new?

Honda is one of the best car manufacturers that has produced many models that both older and newer generations love. You have famous models, such as the VTEC-powered Civic, the Ayrton Senna developed Acura NSX, and the perfectly weight-balanced S2000. While these are Japanese cars that want to go fast, there are other subtle models whose only purpose is to get you from point A to B. The 1993 Honda Accord SE is a sedan many people still want as it's one of the most comfortable and reliable sedans you won't regret owning.

This is why one Honda owner went to great lengths in ensuring his Accord SE still looks brand new after 30 years. While we've seen some 90s cars looking untouched, there's a chance the owners replaced some of its original parts with aftermarket ones. You can't really say the car is in pristine condition without keeping all of its original parts, unless it's this '93 Honda Accord SE specifically.

If you own a used Japanese car, cleaning and maintaining it can be a tedious job. It becomes even more difficult when you want to keep it brand-new throughout the years. Car parts will wear out at some point, so you'll have to either fix or replace them. In most cases, fixing the worn-out parts might be impossible, so the only option you have is to replace them with original parts.

But when you take extra care of your car like Hy, you can actually keep it looking like it just recently got out of the factory. Taking a look at the car, you'll see how Hy maintained the car to the point where it still looks the same car as the one in the original brochures. Hy kept the car's exterior untouched as it still has the same cashmere silver/metallic paint, free from any small scratches and imperfections. He also kept the SE-exclusive 15" alloy wheels polished and maintained.

Even the interior still had the same ivory seats, the Special Edition floor mats, and the SE-exclusive Bose Music System, all kept in an untouched state. Lastly, the trunk looks clean and fresh, and comes with the cargo net, factory floor mat, and a 6-disc changer. The only custom feature inside the trunk is the 1-of-1 umbrella holder that Hy made for the car.

We can thank Tyson Hugie, a Youtuber and car enthusiast, for showing the internet this immaculate Honda Accord SE. The owner, who goes by the name of Hy, has driven and owned this car ever since he first bought it in 1993. No one else has owned this car except for him for 30 years, which is impressive as most car owners would sell their cars after some time.

When Tyson walked around to give the viewers a glance of the car, he opened the hood to check the engine. Once opened, you'll find a very clean and well-maintained engine bay that almost appears like no one has ever driven it. Apart from meticulous engine detailing, Tyson stated Hy replaces parts before they wear out. This ensures a healthy, running engine all the time, and increases its lifespan as well.

One thing you should know about Honda Accord engines is they are bulletproof. It means the engine can last for years before you swap it out for a new one. The engine alone is why many car owners love driving the Honda Accord due to its superior engine reliability. Even Tyson stated this inline-four engine can reach a million miles. Fortunately for Hy, he kept maintained the engine very diligently as the engine still sounds and runs awesome.

Another interesting fact about Hy's Honda Accord is the 132,000 miles on its odometer. This tells us Hy rarely drives his car, and take note he has owned this car for 30 years. Later in the video, Tyson stated Hy loved doing preventive maintenance on the car. This is the most effective way to increase your car's lifespan and resolve mechanical issues before they affect other components on the car.

Besides the odometer as evidence of Hy's 30-year ownership of the car, he also kept records from the day he bought it until today. From the service items to the accessories installed, he has all of them in one folder. There's also the Honda Accord service manual where he labeled specific pages with post-it notes to learn which components need more attention.

The fuel mileage log is the most interesting record in Hy's possession as he has recorded every fuel log from the first time he had it gassed until the present. Owning these records can tell you how well you've cared for the car over the years. It's also a good way to gauge if the car is performing excellent or not. Since you now know how reliable a Honda Accord SE is when maintained properly, you can buy mint-condition one for under $9,000.
