TikTokers use artificial intelligence to create dream musical covers: ‘Is Harry Styles in the room with us?’
Artificial intelligence (AI) is having a moment on the internet, and TikTokers are using it to make their dream songs come true.
TikTokers are using AI to create covers of songs by their favorite artists. For example, users are making Ariana Grande sing SZA's "Kill Bill" and Justin Bieber sing Miley Cyrus’ "Flowers."
Ariana Grande fans couldn't get enough of this version, making their thoughts known in the comments.
"WAIT I LOVE THIS," said @riceandpozole.
"BRO IT FITS SO WELL," said @hut40_xddd.
These aren't just one-off posts from fans, either: There are entire pages dedicated to creating the perfect, most anticipated covers.
The TikTok page @ai_covers has over 50 videos of AI-generated covers. The most popular video was an AI-generated cover of Harry Styles singing the viral TikTok song "If We Ever Broke Up" by Mae Stephens. That video received over 1.5 million views and several positive reviews.
"Is Harry styles in the room with us right now?" said @thisbpaige123.
@AI_covers links to the website covers.ai, where users can join the waitlist to input the specific cover they’d like to see created.
While users are making full-song covers, others have taken artificial intelligence technology to upgrade their own songs.
Trent Reinvent (@trentreinvent) used AI to create a Kanye West feature for his own song.
"These Kanye AI covers have been running TikTok, but I’m the first person that got it to make an original verse and feature on my song," Reinvent said.
He acknowledged that it was him rapping with a Kanye West filter over his vocals, but the door has opened for people to get their favorite artists on more songs.
AI-generated covers add another layer to TikTok's obsession with musical mash-ups, but now things have been taken to a whole new level.
